You can hire ad hoc -style and it can work out just fine, tbh.
But if you are planning to grow your business and want to make sure your hiring success isn't based on luck, I'd recommend considering Talent Acquisition just like Sales and Marketing.
If sales and marketing were done like ad hoc recruitment, you would start cold calling decision makers when you already needed the money in your company's bank account yesterday. And your marketing would be all about poorly targeted BUY BUY BUY -ads.
So just like in Sales and Marketing, also in Talent Acquisition, you most likely close more ideal deals and have less churn if you have spent a moment defining your ICP, in this case ITP (Ideal Talent Profile), how and where to reach them and why they choose, stay and grow with you.
That's why you need a plan or a strategy: to make sure you are doing the right things to find the right talents to meet the business goals. And to avoid wasting loads of money, time and effort to inefficient means and costly wrong hires.
